2016 Construction Projects

 
 
  • Stay alert and give your full attention to the roadway.
  • Read road signs and follow instructions from work zone flaggers.
  • Turn on headlights so workers and motorists can see vehicles.
  • Do not tailgate.
  • Do not speed.  Slow down to posted limits.
  • Keep up with the traffic flow through work zones.
  • Unless instructed to do so, do not change lanes in work zones.
  • Avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, putting on make-up and on-board entertainment systems.
  • Expect the unexpected.  Keep an eye on workers and their equipment.
  • Be patient.  Remember work zones are necessary to improve roads and make them safer.

Beginning Monday, April 4, 2016 the West Virginia Turnpike is planning highway and bridge rehabilitation projects along the entire 88-mile length of the road. There are 428 lane miles on the Turnpike.
Travelers may encounter traffic congestion and delays throughout the summer as there will be 29 lane miles of paving (asphalt overlays and mill and inlay) taking place during this time. In order to avoid traffic delays and inconvenience to the traveling public, the paving will take place during the nighttime hours.
Information about the construction is as follows:
 
· Beginning Monday, April 4, 2016 to Memorial Day, Monday through Friday (7:00 P.M. to 7:00 A.M.)
· After Memorial Day through Labor Day, there will be no construction on Fridays after 7:00 A.M.
· No construction will take place on Saturdays, Sundays or on holidays.
 
Location of Paving Projects:
 
Mercer County:
· North of Athens Exit 14 – Mile marker 17.8 to 27.3 North
· South of Ghent Exit 28 – Mile marker 25.5 to 26.5 South
 
Raleigh County:
· South of Ghent Exit 28 – Mile marker 27.3 to 27.5 North
· South of Mabscott Exit 42 – Mile marker 41.6 to 41.9 South
 
Fayette County:
· North of Pax Exit 54 – Mile marker 56.5 to 56.6 North
· North of Mossy Exit 60 – Mile marker 60.2 to 60.9 North
· North of Mossy Exit 60 – Mile marker 62.5 to 62.7 North
· North of Mossy Exit 60 – Mile marker 62.8 to 63 North
· North of Mossy Exit 60 – Mile marker 63.1 to 63.3 North
· North of Mossy Exit 60 – Mile marker 63.4 to 63.8 North
· North of Mossy Exit 60 – Mile marker 65.1 to 65.4 North
 
Additionally, throughout the summer there will be daytime construction on the following projects on Monday through Thursday:
 
· Bridge approaches – all areas
· Bridge deck repairs at mile markers 17, 20, 39.4, 43.5, 46.8, 62, 63, 83, 89 & 94.5 North and South
· Turnpike Maintenance crews will have lane closures at various locations along the Turnpike for routine patching, bridge maintenance and other regular maintenance activities.
· Line painting – all areas
· Full depth pavement rehabilitation North of Athens Exit 14 – Mile marker 17.8 to 19.2 North
· Bridge deck replacement – North of Camp Creek Exit 20 – Mile marker 28 North
· Full depth concrete pavement rehabilitation South of MacCorkle Ave. Exit 95 – Mile marker 86.6 to 95 South
· Subgrade stabilization South of MacCorkle Ave. Exit 95 – Mile marker 86.6 to 95 South
· Culvert Repair – Mile marker 14.3 & 21 North, 13.7, 25.5, 40.2 & 77.6 South & 120.5 I-64 East
· RPM installation North of Athens Exit 14 – Mile marker 17.8 to 27.5 North
· RPM installation South of Ghent Exit 28 – Mile marker 25.5 to 26.5 South
· RPM installation North of Mossy Exit 60 – Mile marker 60.2 to 65.4 North
