Civil Engineering Co-op
The West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) Co-op Program is designed to provide civil engineering students with practical engineering experience related to transportation. Work assignments provide experience in different aspects of civil engineering such as:
Typical assignments include inspecting work in progress at construction sites, calculating quantities of materials, reviewing and analyzing data and participating in field reviews. College graduates with WVDOH co-op experience find they are well prepared for responsible entry-level civil engineering positions.
Applicants must have completed at least one year in a four year BSCE or BSCET program. Students must maintain a 2.0 grade point average to participate and be enrolled full time (12 semester hours) the semester preceding and succeeding the period for which they are applying.
As a co-op employee you will be a temporary full time employee and as such will not be eligible for retirement benefits, insurance, sick or annual leave, extended leave benefits, cost of living raises, etc. Co-ops can only be employed for a maximum of four months per work session.
To apply for a co-op position students must submit a current college transcript, Co-op application, and Temporary Appointment Acknowledgement Form through their university’s civil engineering office or directly to:

Download an application or obtain one from the university’s civil engineering office. Each university is expected to provide verification that the student is enrolled in civil engineering and is in satisfactory academic standing. Application should be submitted each year in January and February. The deadline for accepting applications is March 6, 2013
If selected the student will be notified by letter to address shown on application by the last week of March as to where and when they can report to work. Start date will be the middle of May.
Compensation is based on the number of hours completed toward a BS degree, and number of co-ops previously worked. Range $1500-$2050/mo.
