April 13, 2009

CHARLESTON-

Reevaluations of bridges in Barbour, Doddridge, Mercer, Summers, and Wirt counties have allowed the Division of Highways to change current bridge restrictions.

Weight restrictions have been added on a Barbour County bridge carrying Barbour County Route 5/3 just south of WV 38 junction at Valley Furnace.  New weight restrictions limit two-axle trucks to 16 tons, three-axle trucks to 22 tons, four or more axle trucks to 22 tons, four-axle semi-trailers to 25 tons, and five-axle semi-trailers to 32 tons.  A one-mile detour is available to overweight vehicles via Barbour County Route 5/3, Barbour County Route 5/4, WV Route 38, and Barbour County Route 5/3.

A single weight restriction has been added to a Doddridge County bridge carrying Doddridge County Route 15 over Buckeye Creek just west of Doddridge County Route 38 at Longrun.  The new restriction limits trucks and commercial vehicles to a maximum gross load of 15 tons.  Overweight vehicles may follow a 14-mile detour along US Route 50, Doddridge County Route 50/16, WV Route 18, Doddridge County Route 25, and Doddridge County Route 48.

Weight restrictions have also been added to a Mercer County bridge carrying Mercer County Route 38/3 over the East River just south of West Virginia Route 112 at Ingleside.  The new restrictions limit trucks of two axles to 16 tons, trucks of three axles to 19 tons, trucks of four or more axles to 20 tons, semi-trailers of four axles to 22 tons, and semi-trailers of five axles to 30 tons.  No detour route is available.

Restrictions have been changed on a Summers County bridge carrying Summers County Route 33/2 over Indian Creek 0.48 mile south of County Route 33 and south of Indian Mills.  While limits remain at 20 tons for two-axle trucks and 33 tons for five-axle semi-trailers, new limits restrict trucks of three axles to 25 tons, trucks of four or more axles to 25 tons, and semi-trailers of four-axles to 26 tons.  No detour is available.

Weight restrictions have been added to a Wirt County bridge carrying WV Route 14 over Reedy Creek just north of County Route 24/1 and south of Palestine.  The new restrictions limit trucks of two axles to 20 tons, trucks of three axles to 30 tons, trucks of four or more axles to 35 tons, semi-trailers of four axles to 36 tons and semi-trailers of five axles to 40 tons.  A 100-mile detour is available to overweight vehicles along US Route 33 and Interstate 77.
