Convenient DMV Online Services Save Time and Money

7/14/2015

CHARLESTON, W.Va.-More and more West Virginians are “skipping the trip” and taking advantage of the online services offered by the Division of Motor Vehicles at dmv.wv.gov

DMV Commissioner Pat Reed is proud to join Governor Earl Ray Tomblin in focusing on providing citizens more access, transparency, and convenience in relation to state government services.  “The expansion of online and mobile services offered by the DMV’s online portal makes it easier and more convenient for West Virginians to renew vehicle registration and a number of other important items from the comfort of their own homes,” Gov. Tomblin said. “I appreciate the DMV’s ongoing effort to make more services available online while working to improve customer service at regional office locations.”

Commissioner Reed noted that online vehicle registration renewals have doubled for the month of June, compared to last year at this time.  “Statistically, DMV does see a higher number of plate renewals every June due to many of our license plates having a July expiration.  However, when we compare the online registration renewals from June 2014 (3,330) to June 2015 (7,089), we see that the number of customers choosing to complete their registration renewal online has doubled.”
DMV is utilizing social media sites like Facebook to promote online services, as well as information in the regional offices, on the DMV website, and in the paper copy renewal
form that customers are sent in the mail.  A link to DMV’s online services is also highlighted on the state’s web page, wv.gov.  According to Commissioner Reed, these efforts are paying off.  “Customers who are able to participate in our online services not only save time and money on their part, but also help to keep the lines shorter in our regional offices, so that staff can devote more time to transactions that can’t be done online.”

Other online services that can be utilized by visiting dmv.wv.gov include checking your driver’s license status, requesting your driving record, paying reinstatement fees, obtaining duplicate registration cards, decals, or plates, changing your address, personalized plate searches, and more.
