Vehicle Registration

Residents of West Virginia must title and register their vehicles with the Division of Motor Vehicles.

Vehicles without liens may be titled and registered by mail or in person at one of the DMV Regional Offices
; or at one of the privately-owned license services located in most communities. Dealers in West Virginia are responsible for the submission of your title work as they must collect and remit the sales tax on any vehicle they sell. The registration fee for passenger vehicles and pickup trucks weighing 8,000 pounds or less is $30. See Registration Fee section below for other miscellaneous registration fees.

Registrants receive a license plate and registration card. Keep the registration card for all vehicles registered, which should be kept in the vehicle at all times.
